Hello, I’M BRE.
I a 32-year-old Utahn and the second of five kids, with three sisters and a brother. I studied dental hygiene and then switched to entrepreneurship and business. In 2014 I quit a nice job and officially started my entrepreneur endeavors. My first business was Acro English where we taught English as a Second Language. If you’re like most people, you’re now probably wondering if I speak a second language. The answer is, Sim, Eu falo português. Y también un poquito de español!
If you know me you know I love running around mountains, my family, dental visits, David Rose, chips and salsa, Utah summers, before and afters infomercials, an all over the place music playlist, and spending time with my one and only, Netflix.
MY ATTACK.
On September 23, 2015 thanks to my little sister Kayli and our Angel Officer, Ben Hone from SLCPD, I survived an attempted murder. After I knew my attacker was dead, my sister was safe and that I was going to live I thought my fight was over. Depression, anxiety, low self worth, fear was just as hard, if not harder, than physically fighting my attacker. Which made me realize my fight was far from over, it was really just beginning.
FIGHTING FOR TIME.
The 6 minutes we fought our attacker were crucial to our survival. Police told us a mere 20% of girls fight back. Which means 80% of girls are more vulnerable to rape and/or murder. Every single minute since the 6 minutes of physically fighting a man who was trying to kill me has been just as crucial to my continued survival.
FINDING THE MIGHT.
I looked for help, but wasn't sure where to go. I felt ashamed and embarrassed to talk to anyone, especially a therapist, about my debilitating fear, depression, anxiety and everything else I was fighting. It seemed like the world kept going while I was stuck all because of someone else's stupid choices. So I started another business, Fight Like Girls, to help raise awareness that self defense is just as mental, emotional, and spiritual as it is physical by sharing my story.
As much as I love Fight Like Girls, after almost 5 years of advocating, personal healing, spending time with and learning from other victims, it became very clear in order to change those stats the entirety of the conversation, approach and practice around self defense needs to change. AND that would take a h*ll of a lot more than my story and personal efforts. It would take YOURS too….and SO many others.
WE need more than a platform, WE NEED A MOVEMENT. And that, my friend is why we’re both here. Welcome to my latest and greatest venture, The Bia Movement!

WHY BIA?
BIA, was a titan Goddess, known for her spiritual might, bodily strength and strength of will. She personified might, power, and energy. Bia has no lines in history, leaving her and her acts of strength easily overshadowed and silenced. Zeus, the king of the Greek gods, knew her strengths and because so called her to bind down his greatest threat, the supreme trickster, Prometheus when no one else could. Bia defied the odds set against her by taking Prometheus’ power by unleashing her own. AND SHE DIDN’T STOP THERE. She bonded the threat then placed the torment on where it was deserved, on him, the tormentor.
The BIA Movement is founded by Bre Lasley. Herself the victim of an attempted murder, Bre used her own acts of strength to defend herself, but ultimately it was her little sister’s that saved her (them).
Because so, Bre has spent the last almost 5 years advocating for victims, especially those who are silenced and/or overshadowed. She wanted to create a safe place full of resources for victims in hopes to enable them to unleash their own power. #likeBia
Bre experienced first hand the systems that failed her before, during and after her violent attack. As part of her advocacy, she is using those experiences to make needed changes within the system and in the conversation, approach and practice of self defense.
